Why switch to a zero waste deodorant?
Did you know that 92% of plastic deodorant tubes are made from a composite plastic mix? That means if they’re not recycled properly, the materials can’t be separated. The average person throws away 150 pounds of waste each year – that’s like emptying an entire grocery bag full of trash every day!
Finding zero-waste alternatives to conventional deodorant is so important in striving for a less wasteful lifestyle. Conventional deodorants tubes made from plastic and never recycled due to their composite plastics. The roller dial and cap are often different plastic than the tube itself and would thus need to be completely disassembled in order to recycle it properly. We also throw out around 150 pounds of trash on average per year–the equivalent weight of an entire grocery bagful each day!
Why is deodorant is used?
As a species, we sweat. And when we sweat, our bodies release an unpleasant odour that is sometimes called “body stink.” Deodorant is used to combat the malodorous smell left behind by perspiration. It can be applied as a spray, in the form of a roll-on, or in stick form. A person typically applies it after being showered and dried off from exercise or bathing to prevent body odour from developing during the day of use.

FAQs – Questions You May Have
What is the best natural deodorant?
Sadly, there’s no right answer for that.
We all have different needs and sensitivities to what we put on our skin. What works wonders for me, may be too harsh or ineffective for you – and vice versa.
To find out what’s best, you need to experiment first with brands that offer various types of ingredients and application methods (sprays, roll-ons, creams) until you find something that suits your body well. From there on it should be easy to spot great natural deodorants as they usually contain just a few ingredients that are plant-based and free from harmful additives.
For me personally, I have tried a few of them and they all work to varying degrees. The most effective one that I have used came in the form of powder. It goes on dry and has no odour whatsoever. When you need to use it again, simply shake some more into your hands and apply as needed!
Can you use apple cider vinegar as a deodorant?
The short answer is yes, you can use apple cider vinegar as a deodorant!
Apple cider vinegar deodorant is an effective and all-natural way to prevent body odour. There are many benefits to using this type of deodorant including no risk from aluminium or other chemicals that can be found in conventional brands, the ability to reduce the frequency of shaving because it contains anti-bacterial properties that inhibit bacterial growth, and an affordable cost. Due to its acidic pH levels, apple cider vinegar is able to destroy the bacteria more effectively than conventional antiperspirants.
