The winter solstice is a very sacred time of year, so it’s important to honor it with a good cleansing ritual before the new year begins.

I had no idea that the winter solstice was such a holy and ceremonial day until recently when I decided to look up interesting holidays coming up in December.

The winter solstice occurs on December 21st, the shortest day and longest night of the year.

It’s important to cleanse your home, yourself, and the elements before starting fresh in the new year.

Here’s how to do it.

Table of Contents

Toggle
  • 1. Light a candle
  • 2. Breath and center yourself
  • 3. Cleanse your space with sage
  • 4. Meditate with your crystals
  • 5. Take some time to journal
  • 6. Give thanks
  • Final thoughts

1. Light a candle

Start your cleansing ritual by lighting a candle of your choice in a dimly lit room.

This is because fire is symbolic for purification and the softly lit candle creates a calming and serene atmosphere for the ritual.

Make sure to turn off any electronics and avoid having them on the entire ritual time because you don’t want any distractions.

2. Breath and center yourself

Now it’s time to center yourself.

It’s important to do this because it will help clear your mind and body and entirely focus on the cleansing ritual.

Close your eyes, take a deep breath in through your nose and then exhale it out of your mouth.

Repeat this for 5 breaths, each time breathing in through your nose and out of your mouth.

Focus your energy and intent on the ritual and only the ritual.

3. Cleanse your space with sage

Sage is a cleansing herb and will help to clear away any negativity in the room.

The winter solstice is a time to clear away the year’s darkness and welcome in good luck for the new year.

This is why it’s important to cleanse your space with sage.

Light a bundle of sage with a lighter or fire match.

Once the bundle is lit, hold it away from your face and walk around the entire area of your home you wish to cleanse.

Encourage the smoke to enter every crack and crevasse so that the negative energy is removed.

The sage will help to clear away any bad energy in the room so that you can have a fresh start in the new year.

4. Meditate with your crystals

Meditating and focusing your energy on crystals is a great way to align your energies and help you to really hone in on the cleansing ritual.

Crystals have a very strong natural energy that can help to keep you grounded while also helping to control your emotions.

Make sure that you are comfortable; you can sit in a chair or lay down to meditate.

Hold a crystal that makes you feel calm and peaceful in your hand.

Close your eyes, take a deep breath in through your nose, and exhale it out of your mouth.

Focus all of your energy on the crystal in your hand and feel its positive energy course through you.

Repeat this, each time focusing on cleansing yourself.

5. Take some time to journal

Journaling is a great way to get your feelings and thoughts out on paper.

It’s also a great way to reflect on the past year and write down what you want to accomplish in the new year.

Take some time for yourself and write down all of your feelings and thoughts on paper.

You can even write down your appointments, to-do lists, and any other important information you need to remember in the new year.

Write about what you are grateful for and how you have grown.

6. Give thanks

Giving thanks is a great way to close down the cleansing ritual.

In many faiths, it’s important to have gratitude for what you have been given and not complain about what you do not have.

Showing gratitude is a great way to set the tone for a happy and healthy new year.

Take time to sit and reflect on everything you have been given and give thanks for such a wonderful life.

This will help you to feel more grateful and appreciate the positive energy that is surrounding you.

When you are finished, give thanks for all of your blessings, and the ritual is complete.

Final thoughts

The winter solstice is a time to set the tone for the new year and remind yourself of what you hope to accomplish.

Cleansing your space will help you eliminate any bad energy that can interfere with the positive flow of thoughts and actions for the new year.

Meditating with crystals and journaling are great ways to focus on the positive changes you want to make in your life while giving thanks is a great way to set the tone for a positive and happy new year.

It is important to remember that cleansing your space, meditating with crystals, and journaling are all great ways to help you focus and set your intentions for the new year.

The winter solstice is a good time to start fresh and rid yourself of any negativity present in the previous year.

There is still time for you to perform a cleansing ritual before the new year; all you need is a few minutes and some sage to help you reconnect with your inner self.
