Why is spiritual awakening so hard?

1. Awakening can leave you feeling lost.

Few people are willing to openly discuss how lonely experiencing a spiritual awakening can be.

It’s common to feel alone or misunderstood. This can be exacerbated when you attempt to connect with others.

If the people around you don’t understand your new perspective, they might dismiss it.

They might even disrespect you for your unconventional opinions.

You also can’t assume that everyone will be on the same level as you regarding their social intelligence. Some people might not have the capacity to understand your depth of feeling.

2. It makes you question your reality

As you begin to experience spiritual awakening, you will start questioning the nature of reality itself.

You’ll begin to understand that you are NOT your thoughts, and you’ll learn how to watch them without getting caught up in them.

This will help you question the nature of your thoughts and how they influence the world around you.

You’ll start to question the nature of your emotions, the things that trigger them, and how they affect your behavior.

Or maybe you will discover that you no longer feel emotions like you used to, and you wonder what it means.

And sooner or later, you’ll realize that you are NOT your body. You’ll realize that you’re not your face, or your age, or your race, or the color of your skin.

You’ll come to understand that there is no you inside of there, just a light – pure consciousness. And that’s the real “you.”

All of this can be overwhelming because pretty much everything you’ve ever believed in is being challenged, and it’s something you could never have prepared for.

3. It requires you to face yourself

When you go through a spiritual awakening, you will have to face yourself—all of you.

Your thoughts, your emotions, your history, and whatever traumas still affect you today.

This is usually the part where people run away or give up because it may be too hard to confront themselves.

But the truth is that it’s necessary if you want to find true freedom.

You need to do deep inner work and go through the dark parts of yourself to experience real spiritual awakening and inner transformation.

4. Awakening changes your beliefs

All of your beliefs are going to change as you experience a spiritual awakening.

You might even end up hating what you used to love and loving what you used to hate.

This is because experiencing a spiritual awakening makes you question everything, including your deepest held beliefs.

While this can be a good thing, it also means that people around you might start to feel the changes.

This may result in arguments and disagreements, which is never nice, but it’s an inevitable part of your spiritual awakening.

Changing as a person can be a wonderful thing – it can help you grow into a better version of yourself.

How to deal with a spiritual awakening

1. Stay mindful of your thoughts

This can be difficult, especially since your thoughts will become extremely loud.

But the more you stay mindful of these thoughts, the easier it will be to separate yourself from them and watch them as they happen.

Your thoughts come and go, just like everything else, including your emotions.

Eventually, you will learn that they are NOT YOU.

You are the one that watches them, not the other way around.

This is hugely liberating and will help you establish a deeper connection with yourself.

2. Beware of your tendency to idealize

Your spiritual awakening can make you naturally want to connect with everyone around you.

Don’t fall into the trap of thinking that everyone else is somehow “perfect” because their behavior doesn’t trigger you like it used to.

Everyone has shadows, even the people closest to you. And if you idealize them, they will let you down sooner or later (and vice versa).

The key is not to look for perfection in other people but in yourself.

3. It’s OK to go at your own pace

One of the most dangerous things you can do is compare your spiritual awakening to someone else’s.

This will only lead to disappointment and frustration since everyone goes at their own pace.

Remember that you’re on your own journey, and there is no need to judge yourself against others.

4. Try to stay grounded

This is easier said than done, but staying grounded can be extremely useful if you want to have a smooth spiritual awakening.

It can be difficult, especially since there is so much going on in your inner world, but staying in touch with your body is one of the best ways to do it.

Your body needs care and attention, especially if you want to stay healthy during this process.

5. Surround yourself with support

It can be very helpful to find others that are dealing with the same thing as you.

Connecting with people can be very rewarding, especially if they know what you’re going through.

You might even find a spiritual teacher/guide if you have the means to do so.

Remember that your connection with inner stillness is great, and you will always have access to that power no matter what happens.

It’s with you wherever you go.

Final thoughts

Spiritual awakening is not always easy – in fact, most of the time, it’s downright difficult.

But that doesn’t mean that it isn’t worth it.

Going through all of this is wonderful and can give you a new sense of direction in life and make you a better person.

Take your time, be patient with yourself and the process, and you will come out on top.
